Philosophy about the creative process

My philosophy about art is that you can teach anyone to draw, photograph, or sculpt. What makes someone an artist is honing the ability to see and translating that for those who cannot. My work is influenced by photographers Diane Arbus, Jerry Uelsmann, Eliot Porter, Dorothea Lange, and painters Edouard Manet, Georgia O’Keeffe, Salvador Dali.

I am an environmental portraitist and photojournalist, follower of things with wings, a scribe for the human tribe. My work is about place and how people, flora and fauna interact with or influence that place. I like to push the limits of what we perceive as real through photo montage or illustration. I trained as a photographer and journalist at Arizona State University, where I earned a bachelor of fine arts. I studied digital design photography at Pierce College and the Nikon School. I hold a master of international administration in cross-cultural training from the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT.
